What is DHI (direct hair transplantation method)?

What are the differences between FUE and DHI hair transplantation?

For hair transplantation with the FUE method, hair follicles are first collected from the donor area. These are classified and collected in a separate place. Then, channels are opened in the area to be transplanted. The collected grafts are placed in these open channels.

With the DHI method, the hair follicles taken from the donor area are placed directly into the area to be transplanted without waiting with a special medical instrument resembling a pen. Unlike the FUE method, channel opening with the tip of the pen and root placement take place simultaneously. In other words, channels do not need to be opened beforehand in the area to be transplanted. In addition, the collected hair follicles grow healthier as they wait outside the body for a very short time and quickly settle in their new places.

FUE steps
  1. Collection of hair follicles
  2. Accumulation of collected follicles
  3. Opening canals in the planned planting area
  4. Transplantation of follicles into the opened ducts

DHI steps
  1. Collection of hair follicles
  2. The channel is opened with the tip of the pencil and the follicle to be transplanted is placed in place.

What are the advantages of DHI hair transplantation?

  • Hair follicles extracted from the donor area are kept outside for a very short time. The longer the waiting time, the more likely it is that the hair follicle will be damaged.
  • In the DHI method, the damage caused during the placement of capillary roots in the area to be transplanted is minimal. Therefore, crusting is less common after transplantation. Recovery time is shorter.
  • In the DHI method, it is easier to give natural direction to the hair follicles during transplantation.
  • With the DHI method, transplantation can be done without having to shave completely. This is an important advantage especially for female patients.

CONCLUSION

The appearance is closer to natural hair. There is minimal edema and less crusting, so the healing rate is also high. Since more frequent transplantation can be performed, high hair density can be achieved.
